ABOUT OUR SAUNA
Our infrared sauna is a Sunlighten mPulse Conquer, which is the world's first and only 3 in 1 Full Spectrum infrared sauna. That means that it is the only sauna on the market that offers the varying benefits of near, mid, and far infrared wavelengths. Infrared saunas are able to function at a lower temperature (around 100-150 degrees F) than traditional saunas (around 200 degrees F), so you get the benefits in a more comfortable setting. It is a dry sauna, so there is no steam. It simply uses infrared heaters that vary the wavelengths depending on the program you choose. Speaking of which, there are 6 pre-set wellness programs based on 56 research studies on the health benefits of Infrared. They are:
- Cardiovascular Health
- Pain Relief/Injury Healing
- Weight Loss
Each one of the settings above will vary and mix the wavelength between near, mid, and far infrared according to their particular benefits. More information on the benefits of these programs is listed below.
Our beautiful sauna is located in a private, quiet room. It features an Android powered screen that allows you to select the program you want to run. The screen also has Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, Facebook, Twitter, a Web Browser, and a DVD player built in so there is no chance of getting bored. You can also connect your device to the sound system and play your own music. You can bring your device into the sauna with you if you choose as well. Or you can just stretch out on the bench and relax in silence, it is completely up to you. If you have a Fitbit, there is a connection for that as well so that you can monitor your heart rate and calories burned, because some of the programs give you many of the same benefits as a cardio workout.

BENEFITS OF INFRARED HEAT
There are numerous benefits to the programs that are available in our infrared sauna. Below is a short description of a few of these benefits.
By far, sweating is the best way to remove toxins from the body. Your skin is your largest organ and it is connected to the entire body through an extensive network of blood vessels. When you sweat, you are removing toxins from all of the cells in your body through your skin. Detoxification can strengthen the immune system, aid in digestion of important nutrients, and help alleviate symptoms of cholitis, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, auto-immune diseases, Autism, ADD, and more. The unique thing about infrared heat is that it heats the body directly, rather than just warming the air around you. This raises your core temperature and allows you to remove toxins, including heavy metals, at the cellular level. This rise in core temperature, sometimes by as much as 3 degrees, is more effective than a typical sauna. In a traditional sauna the sweat has been found to be 95-97% water with the rest being mostly salt. In an infrared sauna, 80-85% of the sweat is water and the rest has been found to be cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, heavy metals, sulfuric acid, ammonia, sodium, and uric acid.
This is a big one. Due to the infrared waves in the sauna the heat is able to penetrate joints, muscles and tissues which increases circulation. Circulation means more blood and more blood means more oxygen and nutrients. Blood flow is key to the healing of injury, muscles spasms, joint pain, and chronic pain conditions. When a muscle is in spasm or very tight, it will demand more oxygen because it is being overworked. The deep penetration of the infrared heat allows those muscles and joints to get the oxygen they need through increased blood flow. It is one of the best treatments for sports injuries, arthritis, and other joint issues. So here we go with some science! An Auburn study showed that stretching during infrared sauna sessions increased flexibility by up to 3 times than without using the sauna. This allows the joints and muscles to work together to increase joint mobility and diminish stiffness, as well as prevent degeneration. Another study in the journal Internal Medicine showed that chronic pain patients showed up to a 70% reduction in pain after the first few sessions in the infrared sauna. And this pain reduction lasted throughout the observation period. The study concluded that infrared heat therapy is effective for treatment of chronic pain. A NASA study showed that near infrared heat showed that the deep penetration of tissue led to increased cell growth from the inside of injured tissue. An Institute of Medical Research study found that near-infrared heat therapy increased the production of white blood cells, which not only boosts the immune system, but reduces inflammation and swelling.
A ten year study by the New England Journal of Medicine showed that waist circumference alone is a critical factor for assessing the risk of premature death, along with a host of other conditions. As we all know, maintaining a healthy weight in our current hectic lifestyle is not easly. We are always under stress, which increases hormones that store fat, and we are hard pressed to find time when we aren't too tired to get a good workout in. Clinical studies have shown that full spectrum infrared saunas have been shown to lower weight and waist circumference in a three month period. The Journal of the American Medical Association published information that showed that infrared sauna weight loss sessions were shown to burn up to 600 calories per session due to the increase in cardiac output and metabolic rate, and a blood flow rate that rises from 5 quarts per minute to 13 quarts per minute. It has also been shown to increase cardiovascular conditioning, so it is essentially a cardio workout you can get by sitting on a bench and catching up on your favorite TV shows.
As we mentioned earlier, stress is a growing problem in our society and it isn't likely to go away anytime soon. It is estimated that 75-90% of all visits to doctors are for stress related issues. Stress, especially long term stress, releases chemicals that have profound physiological effects on the your body, especially with increased blood pressure, weight gain, caridiovascluar health issues, and a weakened immune system. The cortisol hormone released when your body is stressed is the primary culprit. Cortisol is especially good at depositing weight in the belly, which can lead to back pain and many other systemic conditions. Levels of this hormone have been shown to drop, along with systolic and diastolic blood pressure, after an infrared sauna session. That, along with being in a quiet room with your choice of entertainment, promotes even more relaxation.
BLOOD PRESSURE REDUCTION
In the United States, one in three adults will eventually suffer from heart disease, stroke, or some other form of cardiovascular disease. High Blood pressure increases your risk for these issues, as well as kidney disease and atherosclerosis. At the University of Missouri a study showed a lowering of blood pressure through a program of infrared sauna sessions. It also showed that the sauna dilates blood vessels, and decreases the size of the lining of the vessels, which increases circulation and promotes lower blood pressure. Another study in the Journal of Cardiology showed that far-infrared therapy is safe and effective at improving the symptoms and cardiac function in chronic heart failure patients. It also showed a decrease in heart size for these patients. Regular infrared sauna sessions were found to improve blood vessel function in patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.
This one seems to generate the most excitement when we describe it to patients. Maybe because the Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy had a study that showed a 12 week program of sauna therapy, especially near infrared, dramatically improved skin appearance. It was shown to reduce wrinkles, crow's feet, and increase skin tone, which includes softness, smoothness, elasticity, clarity, and firmness. It has also been shown to reduce breakouts. One of the main causes of aging is less tissue and cell growth and increased cell death. A NASA study showed that near infrared therapy increases the speed of cell regeneration leading to faster tissue growth, which negates the effects of aging related degeneration. Tissue growth was shown to be increased by up to 155-171% and any wounds present were found to be decreased in size by 36%. The American Society of Biochemistry showed that near infrared therapy restores the activity of the necessary enzymes to prevent age related changes in the body and reduced the amount of cell death in the body by half.
